Social Program

A sense of insecurity and isolation can be a common side effect of mental illness - an attitude that, as mentally ill people, we are "different," and unable to interact socially or form lasting friendships. That’s why the feeling of warmth and support found at Gateway House is all the more striking. Unlike traditional therapeutic programs, Gateway House is open 365 days a year and offers a range of social and recreational activities. Members come together for a game of basketball or softball, plan and put on parties, picnics and receptions, and travel in groups to the coast or mountains. A weekly "movie night" gives members a time to relax and get to know one another. The annual Christmas Party is a much anticipated event, highlighting the holiday season. Like everyone else, Gateway House members enjoy spending weekends and holidays with friends, sharing favorite recipes or attending cultural and recreational events. Like all friends, we find strength and support in one another, and we no longer feel alone.
